The ResMed ASV algorithm monitors 13 key points in every breath cycle, 50 times per second. The ASV Auto algorithm is uniquely tailored to each user by using their individual minute ventilation target and respiratory rate to deliver therapy that stabilizes breathing. It continuously analyzes the shape of each breath to determine trigger and cycle points, as well as the duration of inspiration—making therapy feel natural and in sync with the user’s own breathing pattern.

Key features of the algorithm include:

• Auto-adjusting Inspiratory Pressure Support: Automatically adjusts to counteract ventilatory instability by maintaining each user’s specific minute ventilation target (tidal volume and respiratory rate), while ensuring comfort and synchrony with the user’s breathing.

• AutoEPAP: Uses ResMed’s proven AutoSet algorithm to detect and respond to flow limitations, snoring, and obstructive apneas. The system dynamically adjusts expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP) to keep the upper airway open.

• Auto Backup Rate: Employs breath phase mapping to synchronize a timed backup rate with the user’s natural breathing. This ensures the target minute ventilation is maintained, even in the presence of apneas.
